GRIFFIN AIRWORKS
Home / About

Independent by design, not by accident.

Griffin AirWorks flies, processes, and delivers aerial documentation. That is the whole business. We do not build, we do not adjust claims, and we do not certify payment applications.

Positioning

The narrowness is the point.

Third-party documentation is worth something because of who produced it. The moment the party producing the evidence also has a stake in how the evidence is read, the evidence gets discounted, and it should be.

So we hold one position and we hold it consistently. Griffin AirWorks is not affiliated with any general contractor, design firm, insurance carrier, or surveying practice. We do not subcontract to a GC on projects we document for an owner or a carrier. We are paid to capture and report what is there, and nothing about our compensation changes based on what we find.

The people behind Griffin AirWorks came out of commercial construction rather than out of photography. That matters mostly in the unglamorous places: knowing what a schedule of values looks like, knowing which line items get argued about, knowing that a report nobody can file is a report nobody uses.

The work itself

Same altitude, same path, same output.

A capture is only useful next to the one before it. Flight plans are saved and reflown, altitude and overlap are held constant, and the deliverable comes out in the same format every time.

That consistency is unglamorous and it is most of the value. It is what lets two dates be compared without anyone arguing that the angle changed.

Credentials and equipment

What is actually in the air, and who is flying it.

Pilot in command

Every mission is flown under an FAA Part 107 remote pilot certificate, originally issued in 2016. One certificated pilot in command is responsible for each flight, including airspace authorization, preflight assessment, and the decision not to fly when conditions say not to.

Where a mission runs remotely, a briefed visual observer is on site and the pilot in command retains responsibility for the operation.

Safety qualification

Jobsite safety inspections are conducted by an inspector holding an OSHA 30-hour construction training card. That is training, not a certification or a license, and we say so on the service page as plainly as we say it here.

Observations reference 29 CFR 1926 for context. They are not determinations of regulatory compliance, and every employer on site retains its own duties.

Accessibility and Fair Housing training

Fair Housing Act design and construction coursework and Texas Accessibility Standards training, completed through the Texas Accessibility Academy under the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The Texas accessibility registration is not current, and we hold no accessibility registration in any state.

The training travels even though the registration does not. The Texas standards are built on the ADA Standards, and the Fair Housing Act design and construction requirements apply nationwide. It means the person documenting a multifamily site knows what an accessible route, a clear floor space, and a compliant unit type are supposed to look like. We document and report observed conditions. We do not certify compliance and we do not render a legal opinion on Fair Housing Act or ADA obligations.

Aircraft and processing

Mapping and progress work is flown on a DJI Matrice 4E with network RTK positioning. Staged remote monitoring uses compact Mini-class aircraft configured for autonomous missions. Ground control and field layout run on an Emlid Reach RX2 GNSS rover. Photogrammetric processing runs through DroneDeploy.

Deliverables are archived on a redundant local and cloud backup so a capture from eighteen months ago is still retrievable.

How we operate

Airspace authorization through LAANC where the site sits in controlled airspace. Weather assessed against the mission, not against optimism. Preflight inspection, flight logs, and a site contact notified before and after every capture.

Much of the Northeast corridor is controlled airspace of some class, as is most dense metro airspace anywhere we travel, so authorization is routine work rather than an obstacle. It occasionally adds lead time, which is why we ask for scheduling notice.

Delivery standard

24 hours for routine deliverables, 48 for complex, same-day rush available. Every deliverable is reviewed by a person before release. The format does not change month to month, which is the only way two captures can be compared without an argument about methodology.

Boundaries

What we do not do.

Stated plainly, because a documentation vendor that is vague about its limits is a documentation vendor you should not use.

  • We are not a licensed land surveying firm and we do not offer land surveying. Nothing we produce directly is a record survey or carries a seal. Sealed work is performed by a licensed firm engaged for that scope.
  • We do not provide engineering opinions or structural assessments.
  • We do not determine cause of loss, assess coverage, or adjust claims.
  • We do not certify payment applications. We supply visual evidence to the party who does.
  • We do not act as a competent person, a qualified person, or a site safety representative, and we do not assume any employer's safety obligations.
  • We do not offer legal advice, including on drone or workplace safety regulation. Our compliance conversations describe publicly available FAA and OSHA requirements.
  • We are not OSHA and are not affiliated with OSHA or any government agency. Our safety reports are not determinations of regulatory compliance.
  • We do not take work that puts us on both sides of a project.

Service area

Based in Connecticut. Willing to get on a plane.

Clinton, Connecticut is the base, and the Northeast corridor is where turnaround is fastest. For portfolio programs, multi-site rollouts, and post-event response we travel nationwide.

Travel is always a separate, stated line. We would rather show you the number than hide it in a rate and hope you do not notice.

  • Within one hour of Clinton, CTNo travel fee
  • Northeast corridor, up to a 3 hour drive$150 flat
  • Extended drive, 3 to 6 hoursDay rate plus mileage
  • Nationwide fly-in mobilizationQuoted
  • Multi-site programsTravel amortized
